THE BOSTON DAILY GLOBE--The Globe Extra! 8 O'Clock, April 23, 1898  A bold headline with a political cartoon featuring Uncle Sam: "SECOND PRIZE" "U.S. Warships Blockade Ports On Cuban Coast" with other subheads.
Complete in 12 pages but two leaves are bound out of order. Good condition.

Background: The April 1898 Cuban Ports blockade was a pivotal event in modern naval history, signaling the definitive arrival of the United States as a formidable global maritime power. Domestically, the blockade marked the transition from diplomatic posturing to active warfare, effectively locking Spain out of its last major stronghold in the Western Hemisphere and hastening the collapse of its centuries-old colonial empire. From a military standpoint, it served as the first real-world operational test for the "New Navy"—a fleet of modern, steel-hulled warships built under the strategic influence of Alfred Thayer Mahan’s theories on the supremacy of sea power. By successfully isolating Spanish garrisons and starving them of reinforcements, ammunition, and food, the blockade minimized the need for protracted land campaigns, forcing Spain’s hand and altering global geopolitics by thrusting the United States into a new era of overseas imperialism.
