John Wesley in Georgia... Boundary disputes in the colonies...

Item # 714673

THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, September, 1737  Near the back is a section headed: "Historical Chronicle" with news from England & other parts of Europe.
Included is a report headed: "Extract of a Letter from the Rev. Mr. Wesley dated at Savanna in Georgia..." which is a very nice letter by this famed evangelist, taking half the page and signed by him in type: John Wesley.
The following page has a lengthy article--taking over a full page--headed: "Great Britain's Right to Georgia further asserted" & is a continuation from a previous issue. It begins: "Georgia is part of the Province called Carolina which was at the same time with the rest of North America..." with much, much more.
Among additional articles noted in the table of contents are: "Character of His Royal Highness" "Scripture Proofs Alledg'd by the Quakers consider'd" "Liberty of the Press Defined" "The Belzabub of the Jews, the Venus of the Greeks" "Of Punishing Libels" and more.
No plates are called for in this issue.
Contains 54 pages lacking the full title/contents page, 5 by 8 inches, some foxing a the margins, good condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
