THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, June, 1731 This was the very first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, and also the very first general interest magazine in the world--and this is from the very first year of its existence. 
This title began in 1731 and ran through 1907.
Most of the issue is taken up with: "A View of the Weekly Essays in this Month" which as a report of items in the various newspapers of the day, including The Free Briton, The Grub Street Journal, the Universal Spectator, Read's Journal, Fog's Journal, The London Journal and others.
Near the back is the "Monthly Intelligencer" which has the latest news reports of the day including at least one ironic report: "James Monaghan, a butcher, was hang'd and quarter'd at Stephen's Green, Dublin, for the murder of his wife...".
There were no plates or maps in such early issues of this magazine.
Contains 46 pages, 5 by 8 inches, lacking the full title/contents page, very nice condition.
