Boer War newspaper, "Special Siege Edition", broadside issue...
THE MAFEKING MAIL--SPECIAL SIEGE SLIP, South Africa, Dec. 25, 1899 A fascinating newspaper published during the Boer War under "siege" conditions. Note below the dateline: "Issued Daily, Shells Permitting".
Although we've sold many issues of this title over the years, this might be among the most unusual, as it is printed on a wide sheet (19 1/4 inches wide, 14 3/4 inches wide), blank on the reverse so it is a broadside issue. Once folded at the middle be since separated with a portion missing at the fold (see photos), archivally rejoined. Printed on brownish newsprint, never-trimmed margins.
Item from our most recent catalog - #371 - released for October, 2026
