Germans take control of the island of Jersey...

Item # 712325 ·

THE EVENING POST, Jersey, Oct. 8, 1941

  • German occupation publication
  • English Channel Island of Jersey

This is a small island in the English Channel which was under the occupation of the Nazis during most of World War II.
This issue is from just over a year into the German occupation. Although the front page is filled with ads & notices, inside has pro-Nazi content concerning the war.
Complete in 4 pages, never bound nor trimmed, nice condition.

Background: The July 9, 1940 issue of The Evening Post serves as a stark primary snapshot of Jersey's transition into wartime rule, printed just eight days after Nazi forces landed on the English Channel island. Beyond its standard front-page local classifieds and commercial advertisements, the four-page paper is dominated by heavy German censorship and forced pro-Nazi propaganda, featuring official German military communiqués (Wehrmachtbericht) designed to project Axis dominance following the recent Fall of France. Alongside these slanted war reports, the issue contains urgent civil mandates from the newly established Feldkommandantur, enforcing strict local curfews, island-wide blackout regulations, wireless radio registration orders, and confiscation notices that marked the sudden, overwhelming onset of a nearly five-year occupation.
