Laying the telegraph cable across the Atlantic Ocean, with maps...
THE WEEKLY HERALD, Aug. 12, 1865 The top one-third of the front page is dominated but a large illustration with a banner headline: "THE GREAT ATLANTIC CABLE--Map of the Starting Points in Ireland & Newfoundland & Route of the Old and New Cables as Laid."
Plus there are nice first column heads as well including: "THE CABLE" "7,0009 Miles Laid When the Insulation is Lost" "The Great Cable & Its Connections" and much more.
Also, page 3 has some illustrations regarding the cable including a small map of: "The Route In Asiatic Russia". Nearly half of page 3 is taken up with a great map of the world headed: "THE GIRDLE ROUND THE EARTH" showing the route of the cable as it would reach around the entire globe.
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed so it folds out to a single sheet, some light dirtiness, generally in nice condition.
