THE WORLD, New York, June 30, 1862

* Seven Days Battles - Peninsula Campaign
* George B. McClellan vs. Robert E. Lee

First column heads include: "Gen. McClellan's Army" "Another Great Battle" "Grand Triumph Over the Rebels" "Reports From Rebel Sources" "Jackson Said to have Turned the Right Wing of our Army" plus more reporting. Civil War reports inside as well.
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed so it folds out to one large sheet, minor damage near the masthead does not affect any text.

Background: The June 30, 1862 front page of The World captured a crucial turning point in the American Civil War, reflecting the chaotic fog of war as Major General George B. McClellan’s Army of the Potomac was forced away from the gates of Richmond during the Seven Days Battles. Northern headlines blared optimistic reports of a "Grand Triumph Over the Rebels," yet subtle details revealed the grim strategic reality: General Robert E. Lee’s newly assumed command of the Army of Northern Virginia had shifted the momentum. Armed with intelligence from "Rebel Sources," the paper noted that Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was "Said to have Turned the Right Wing of our Army," highlighting the vital tactical maneuver where Jackson's forces reinforced Lee from the Shenandoah Valley to threaten the Union supply lines and break McClellan's right flank. This relentless offensive unravelled the Union's Peninsula Campaign, shattering Northern hopes for a swift capture of the Confederate capital and transforming the struggle from a short intervention into a prolonged, bloody war of attrition.
