NEW YORK TIMES, July 22, 1861  This would be the premiere report on the Battle of Bull Run, the first major battle of the Civil War and reported just one day after it happened. Plus, reported on perhaps the most venerable title of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The first column has heads: "CRUSHING REBELLION" "The Greatest Battle Ever Fought on this Continent" "The Whole Rebel Army of Manassas Engaged" "Fearful Carnage On Both Sides" "Advance of the National Army in Three Columns" "The Rebels Routed & Driven Behind the Manassas Lines" "The Battle to Be Renewed To-Day" and more.  The reporting is considerable, taking most of the front page, and includes many "Bulletins of the Battle". The reporting on Bull Run carries over to the inside pages as well.
Also on the front page is: "The Rebel Government", "Jeff. Davis' Message To the Southern Congress" and other war-related items.
Eight pages, a few stray ink marks on the front page, very nice condition.
