AMERICAN MERCURY, Hartford, Connecticut, Jan. 23, 1817  The bottom of page 2 has the historic document from Congress whereby Indiana joined the Union.
Headed: "Resolution for Admitting the State of Indiana into the Union" noting in part: "...An act to enable the people of the Indiana territory to form a constitution and state government, and for the admission of that state into the Union...that the state of Indiana shall be one & is hereby declared to be one of the U. States of America, and admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original states in all respects whatever."
It is signed in type by the President, James Madison.
