NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, June 4, 1836  Inside has "Capture Of Santa Ana" which includes three letters from him with one that begins: "Having yesterday had an unfortunate encounter, I have resolved to remain a prisoner of war in the hands of the enemy...". Signed in type: Antonio Lopez De Santa Ana.
Following this is are two more letters signed by Santa Ana concerning disposition of his troops and the command to: "...order the military command at Goliad to put all the prisoners made at Copana at liberty...". There is also a letter which begins: "Tell our friends...that we have beaten the enemy....Generals Santa Ana and Cos are taken..." Signed in type: Samuel Houston.
Perhaps the most significant letter is one signed by Thos. J. Rusk, Secretary at War, datelined "War Dept., head quarters army, San Jacinto River, April 26th, 1836" in which he advises of the success of the Battle of San Jacinto with: "...The enemy have been badly defeated, & are retreating precipitately, for the purpose of concentrating. One bold push now will drive them entirely out of the country & secure liberty, independence and peace, to Texas..." with a bit more.
Additionally, there is much on: "Slavery In the District of Columbia" which includes a report taking 7 pages.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches, very nice condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
