Printing a prominent masthead illustration featuring two trains coming together, the paper explicitly commemorates the historic joining of the East and West Coast by railroad via the First Transcontinental Railroad. This iconic joining of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific lines had occurred just 4 years previous during the famous 1869 "Golden Spike" ceremony at nearby Promontory Point (Promontory Summit), solidifying Ogden's crucial role as a major western rail crossroads. Preserved in nice condition, the issue is remarkably scarce: according to Winifred Gregory's landmark newspaper bibliography (American Newspapers, 1821–1936), only 3 institutions hold any physical copies of the run—with one repository keeping a single issue and another maintaining only scattered issues.
