GLEASON'S LITERARY COMPANION, Boston, Sept. 5, 1863  This was one of several titles published by the successful Frederick Gleason, known as the "father of illustrated journalism" with this very successful "Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion" in 1851, modelled after the "Illustrated London News" & later copied by both Harper and Leslie.
This was a literary publication from the Civil War era, the prime feature being the huge eagle engraving in the masthead, with a wingspan of 7 inches. There are just 3 illustrations, most content being literary, two of them relating to the Civil War.
Sixteen pages, 11 by 15 inches, great condition.
