Item # 706872 ·

THE DENVER DAILY, Colorado, April 20, 1867

  • Rare Old West publication

A very early issue for Colorado, as are any issues from before statehood in 1876. And this is a volume 1 issue.
This name existed for less than 4 months fron January 20 thru May 14, 1867. Beginning May 15 the title was changed to the 'Daily Denver Tribune', issues of which are are commonly found.
Four pages, great condition.

Background: This April 20, 1867 issue of The Denver Daily represents an extraordinarily rare artifact of territorial Colorado journalism, capturing Denver nearly a decade before Colorado achieved statehood in 1876. Its extreme scarcity stems primarily from the newspaper’s fleeting publication window: the masthead title The Denver Daily existed for less than four months—from January 20 through May 14, 1867—before permanently rebranding as the far more common Daily Denver Tribune on May 15. As a Volume 1 issue preserved in four complete pages, it offers an uncommonly crisp window into the high frontier era, documenting local municipal growth, mining reports, territorial politics, and early commercial ads at a moment when Denver was rapidly evolving from a rugged boomtown into a major western hub.
