THE LIBERATOR, Boston, May 3, 1861  The very famous anti-slavery newspaper published by William Lloyd Garrison, with three slave-related vignettes in the masthead.
This issue contains reports on the Pratt Street Riot, or the Pratt Street Massacre as it was called. It was considered the first bloodshed of the Civil War, as troops from Massachusetts encountered Confederate sympathizers as the troops passed through Baltimore on their way to Washington, D.C. Significant to have this content in this famous anti-slavery newspaper.
Page 3 has: "The Feeling In Baltimore" "Incidents Of The War" "The Wounded Massachusetts Soldiers In New York" "The Massachusetts Dead" and more. There is also an article: "John Brown 'Still Lives' In The Hearts of His Countrymen" as well as: "An Impromptu Account Of the Siege of Sumter".
Four pages, slightly irregular at the blank spine, nice condition.
