Item # 706420 ·
CHEROKEE PHOENIX, AND INDIANS' ADVOCATE, New Echota (Georgia), Sept. 28, 1833  An extremely significant and very rare title, so much so that Wikipedia has a site devoted specifically to this newspaper.
It includes: "The Cherokee Phoenix...was the first newspaper published by Native Americans in the United States and the first published in a Native American language. The first issue was published on February 21, 1828, in New Echota, capital of the Cherokee Nation. The paper continued until 1834."
A very rare opportunity for a scarce title.
The issue is mostly in English, with a portion of page 3, and a larger portion of page 4 in the Cherokee language.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, minor spotted foxing, very ice condition.
Complete in four pages, never bound nor trimmed.
