First NCAA College basketball championship game...

Item # 702560 ·
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, March 28, 1939

* Very first "March Madness" - NCAA basketball championship in 1939

The top of page 3 of the sport's section has 1st report coverage on the final game of the very first NCAA basketball championship ever held, with heading: "OREGON BEATS OHIO STATE FOR NATIONAL TITLE" (see images). With present-day interest in the NCAA tournament culminating in a highly hyped "March Madness" tournament which dominates the sports world for weeks, it is interesting to note the very modest beginning of this famed tournament. A rare opportunity for a newspaper account of the very first NCAA basketball championship.
Complete with 28 pages, light toning at the margins with a few archival mends on the front page, small binding holes along the spine, generally in good condition.
