Background:Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, died unexpectedly on April 12, 1945, at Warm Springs, Georgia, where he had gone for a routine visit to his retreat at the Little White House. Roosevelt had been in declining health for years, suffering from hypertension, heart disease, and the lingering effects of polio, which had left him paralyzed from the waist down. On that day, he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and passed away suddenly in the presence of his aides. His death came just weeks before the end of World War II in Europe, leaving the nation in mourning. Vice President Harry S. Truman was immediately sworn in as president, assuming the leadership of a nation in the final stages of the global conflict. Roosevelt’s passing marked the end of an era, as he had been elected to four terms, the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms.
