Also on page 3: "The Purchase of Mount Vernon" by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, with the details. 
Over an entire page, spread on very pages 7 & 8, are taken up with the: "President's Message" being the annual state-of-the-union address, signed in type: James Buchanan. In it he reviews the work and events of the country in 1859. Relating to this is a lengthy editorial on it headed: "The President's Message".
