November 09, 1869
NEW YORK TIMES, Nov. 9, 1869

* Very first college football game (historic)
* Princeton Tigers vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
* Just after the American Civil War

The back page has a brief but historic report on: Rutgers vs. New Jersey (later known as Princeton), as they faced off in what is considered by most to be the first-ever American football game which was played on Nov. 6, 1869 (some give this distinction to the competitors within the Oneida Football Club). Regardless, it was most certainly the first intercollegiate game.
Other news and advertisements of the day are found throughout.
Complete in 8 pages, a small non-archival mend in the lower margin of the front page, typical wear, but overall in very good condition.
