background: Colonel Archibald Montgomery was the British officer in command of Fort Loudoun during its siege and fall in 1760. He led the fort’s defense against the Cherokee but ultimately had to surrender after a prolonged siege with dwindling supplies. Montgomery was taken prisoner by the Cherokee following the surrender and later released after negotiations. His role is significant as the commanding officer during this key event in the Anglo-Cherokee War.
