Background: This Volume 1, Number 50 issue of the Baltimore Daily Repository, published on December 20, 1791, by David Graham, represents an exceptionally rare artifact from the early Federal Era and holds immense historical significance as the city’s very first daily newspaper. Printed just five days after the official ratification of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791, the four-page issue captures a critical turning point in early American democracy. The front page is filled with merchant ads, shipping notices, and commercial announcements that provide an authentic snapshot of post-Revolutionary urban life, while page 2 delivers essential legislative national reports directly from the federal House of Representatives. Measuring 9 by 11 inches and remaining in very nice condition, this short-lived publication—which ran for less than two years from October 24, 1791, to October 19, 1793—serves as a scarce primary source documenting the economic growth, political debates, and daily realities of early Maryland and the young United States.
