DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Jan. 29, 1864  A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy, the city throughout which all war-related reports flowed.
The front page includes: "The War News" "The Tennessee Frontier--The North Carolina Expedition" "Spirit of the Army" "The Yankee Congress--Bluster & Bravado About the War" "The Military Situation--the Prospect--The Spring Campaign" "Correspondence Between General Longstreet and General Foster in Relation to Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation [actually his Amnesty Proclamation]" includes an interesting letter signed in type by: J. Longstreet, in which he says in part: "I find the proclamation of President Lincoln...immediate object ...seems to be to induce our soldiers to quit our ranks & take the oath of allegiance to the United States government...The few men who may desert under the promise...they disgrace themselves in the eyes of God & of man...".
Also on the ftpg: "Farce of 'Re-Admitting Arkansas Into the Union'--A Bogus Game". The back page includes a lengthy editorial which focuses on the finances of the war. Also: "The Confederate Congress" "The Yankees in James River".
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, never bound nor trimmed, minor damp stain near the top, generally very nice condition.
