The front page is dominated by a very large Civil War map headed: "M'CLELLAN'S RECENT OPERATIONS" which the Richmond vicinity and southeast to Berkley & Harrison's Point.
Front page column heads including: "Our Army Advance on Richmond" "Spirited Brush With the Rebels" "200 Rebel Soldiers Captured" and more, plus reports of the destruction of the steamship Golden Gate.
Eight pages, scattered foxing, good condition.

Background: The August 8, 1862 issue of The New York Herald featured a detailed Civil War map titled “McClellan’s Recent Operations,” depicting a reconnaissance mission toward Richmond conducted by Union forces on August 5. Though not a full-scale advance, the operation was presented as a successful maneuver, with the map highlighting key roads, rivers, and Union troop movements in the James River region near the Confederate capital. Published during a lull in McClellan’s Peninsula Campaign, the map served to inform and reassure Northern readers about ongoing Union activity and was part of the broader effort to maintain public confidence in the war effort.
