DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D. C., Feb. 24, 1847 Under the category 'before they were famous' would be a brief & inconspicuous report on the back page.
Headed: "Appointments by the President" is found: "Franklin Pierce, of New Hampshire, to her Colonel of Infantry." Just a month later he would be promoted to Brig. General, and in March, 1853 he would be inaugurated as President of the United States.
Page 3 has Mexican War content with: "The State of the Mexican Question in Congress" taking half a column. And then: "From the Rio Grande" mentioning in part: "...General Taylor was at Monterey with the first regiment of Mississippi volunteers, under Colonel Davis..." being Jefferson Davis.
Four pages, very nice condition.
