Early Winslow Homer print...

Item # 689882 ·
BALLOU'S PICTORIAL, Boston, July 4, 1857

* American illustrator Winslow Homer
* Very early illustration in a periodical

Winslow Homer prints are very desirable, and among the more difficult periodical  titles in which to find Homer prints is "Ballou's Pictorial" as it rarely comes on the collector market from the Homer era.
Here is one such issue, with a Winslow Homer print on an inside page titled: "Hon. William Haile, Governor of New Hampshire". The same page also has a related article and even mentions Homer, with the text beginning: "The accompanying likeness was drawn expressly for us by Mr. Homer...".
Very rarely is there mention of the artist in a related article.
Other prints within include: "Review of the New York Seventh Regiment, on Boston Common" "The Parrot Tribe" "English Fox Hunting" "S. Tilton's Villa, Woburn, Massachusetts" called Oak Hill.
Sixteen pages, archival repairs at the spine including some archival work to the spine margin of first leaf only, mild margin wear.

$69
