This issue was published the day before Robert E. Lee surrendered to U.S. Grant which essentially ended the Civil War.

Civil War coverage takes five of the six front page columns and included among the dispatches are two signed in type: A. Lincoln, which are introductory notes to details provided by Sheridan, Grant, Meade, and Humphreys.
