America's embarrassing entry in the 'space race'...

Item # 687917 ·
THE DETROIT NEWS, Mass., Dec. 6, 1957

* Vanguard TV3 embarrassment (day of)
* America's 1st attempt to launch satellite

A report on the front page announces the upcoming embarrassing entry of the United States in the space race with the Soviet Union, with a banner headline: "RUSH MOON LAUNCHING; Count Resumes After 3 1/2 Hour Delay" with subheads. (see) Nice for display.
This monumental failure of America's first attempt at space came just 2 months after the Soviets shocked the world with its successful Sputnik I launch, taking the lead in the space race.
Complete with all 64 pages, light toning and a little wear at the margins, some binding holes along the spine, generally nice.
