Critical thoughts on Mordecai Noah's plans for a Jewish homeland... A curious parallel to Mormon efforts a few years later...

Item # 685000 ·
NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Jan. 21, 1826

* Mordecai Manuel Noah
* Jewish homeland on the Niagara River

The prime article is: "Re-assemblage of the Jews" which has a letter somewhat critical of the efforts of Mordecai Manuel Noah to create a homeland for the Jews on Grand Island in the Niagara River.
This is followed by some responses by Mr. Noah.
Some have drawn a curious parallel to the efforts of Noah to found a Jewish homeland, or "New Jerusalem" to the efforts of a few years later of Joseph Smith--also of Western New York--to found a "New Jerusalem" for the Latter Day Saints.
Also within: "Slave Labor" which is brief, and over half a page on: "Officers of the Navy" which lists the number of the various ranks, plus names of the captains, masters commandant, and lieutenants.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, nice condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
