SAN RAFAEL HERALD, California, March 2, 1876 This town is in the North Bay region of San Francisco. It has been the seat of Marin County since 1851. The San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad reached San Rafael in 1879 and was linked to the national rail network in 1888.
Gregory's "Union List of American Newspapers" notes that it existed for just five years, and no American institution has any holdings. Those issues once held by the Bancroft Library were deaccessioned long ago, and is from where this issue came.
Page 3 has a lengthy report headed: "SAN QUENTIN" "Disastrous Fire at the State Prison" "The Workshops Completely Destroyed' 'Server loss to the State!"
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, minor margin tears with some discrete archival mends.
