DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, April 9, 1862  Page 3 also has: "Telegraphic News--Further Particulars of the Battle of Shiloh" or Pittsburg Landing as it was known in the North.
It is a short report datelined April 7 & includes: "...we have gained the most complete victory of the war. We have driven the enemy into their transports..." with just a bit more.
Page 3 also contains a "Proclamation" signed in type: Jefferson Davis.
Perhaps my favorite content in this title is the editorial, as it is typically rabidly anti-Yankee. Bits include: "It is certain that McClellan is at the head of the Northern troops...also certain that instead of attacking Magruder's lines he is fortifying his own! This strange intelligence is very characteristic of American warfare...The feats of the Merrimac-Virginia are not more exciting. She went out two days ago...the Merrimac has sunk no ships, fought no Monitors...The President's special message upon Beauregard's glorious victory at Shiloh contains no information...the news received continues to be brilliant & triumphant..." which continues with some information on Shiloh, and continues with: "But we have no evidence that the Northern army in Tennessee is routed beyond the possibility of rally...." with more. Also: "...The Goths & Vandals prusued the same policy as the Yankees.
Also on page 2 are: "Movements & Spirit of the War--Our Victory in New Mexico--Surrender of Fort Craig--Bombardment of Island No. Ten--The Yankees at Nashville...--Confederate Officer Condemned to be Shot in Missouri--Yankee Outrages in Stafford County". Also: "The Virginia Positively Out" "Conscription Bill" "The Ladies' Gunboat" "The Yankees in the Cotton States" "The Militia & Volunteer Service" plus lengthy reporting on: "The Northern Congress--Abolition of Slavery in the District of Columbia...".
Page 3 has much from: "The Confederate Congress" and includes a very nice & somewhat detailed account by the President of the Confederacy on the Battle of Shiloh, being his address to Congress & includes in part: "...able to announce to you with entire confidence that it has pleased Almighty God to crown the Confederate arms with a glorious & decisive victory over our invaders. On the morning of the 6th the converging columns of our army were combined by its commander-in-chief General A. Sidney Johnston in an assault on the Federal army, then encamped near Pittsburg...After a hard-fought battle of ten hours, the enemy was driven to disorder......it is but too true that General Albert Sidney Johnston is no more. The tale of his death is simply narrated in a dispatch..." with much more. The report is signed in type: Jefferson Davis.
