NEW YORK TIMES, Jan. 19, 1879 Page 7 is: "Frederick Douglass On The South" (see images). The bottom of page 5 has: "The Mormon Polygomists' Reply" (not photographed). One of the more interesting articles is found on page 2: "A Colored Man's History", which tells of a young slave boy who managed to save a few pennies here and there until he was given his freedom at age 21. He had been so industrious and wise with his earnings, and continued with these attributes upon becoming free, and eventually became the captain of a sloop, the owner of a tavern, and purchased a property that was well beyond the means of anyone, regardless of color, for the era. See images for details.
