THE RICHMOND TIMES, May 12, 1865

  • Very rare Yankee occupation issue
  • Post capital of the Confederacy

A quite rare title as this was a newspaper created by the Yankee forces upon the capture of the capital of the Confederacy. This is just the volume 1, number 19 issue.
The content has much on end-of-war and Reconstruction reports. The front page has: "Proclamation From the President" "Reconstruction In Virginia" "Gov. Pierpont to be Sustained" "Confiscation of Property!"
Inside includes: "Scene at Johnston's Surrender - Interview With Generals Johnston and Hardee" & much more.
Eight pages, 12 by 18 1/2 inches, never bound nor trimmed, foxing at the folds, generally very nice condition.
