THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, England, Sept. 27, 1856 A lengthy article titled: "Sketches In the Free & Slave States of America" includes two pages filled with ten related prints, most showing African-Americans. A few are captioned: "Negro Expulsion From Railway Car, Philadelphia" "Slaves Waiting for Sale, Virginia" "The Negro Reveille, Charleston" and the most significant captioned: "Slave Auction at Richmond, Virginia" being a one-third page print of a slave auction in progress.
It is quite rare to find a period newspaper print of a slave auction, this issue being only one of a handful I have ever seen.
Complete in 24 pages with the Supplement & in very nice condition.
