GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, January, 1764  Among the articles within is a very detailed: "Account of the Discovery, Conquest...and Present State of the Canary Islands..." which takes six pages.
Also within the issue are: "Description of the City of Hereford" "Observation on a Passage in the New Testament"  "On Monopolizing the Necessaries of Life"  "Rules for the Preservation of the Teeth and Gums" and more.
Included also is an article: "Description of the Spermaceti Whale, thrown on the Flats at Sea Salter near Whitstable in Kent" which is accompanied by a full page plate.
Complete in 48 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 by 8 inches, very nice condition.

A very nice magazine from just after the French & Indian War from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
