CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, Oct. 1, 1938
* Chamberlain's "it is peace for our time"...
* German annexation of Sudetenland begins
* Nazis - Adolph Hitler enters Czechoslovakia
The day prior British Prime Minster Neville Chamberlain gave a speech concerning the Munich Agreement and the Anglo-German Declaration and assured the British people that: "...it is peace for our time". (see text) The front page has a banner headline: "GERMAN TROOPS MARCH IN" with subheads. (see) Also a small one column heading: "New Peace Pact" Reporting continues on page 2. The phrase is primarily remembered for its ironic value: less than a year after the agreement, following continued aggression from Hitler and his invasion of Poland, Europe was plunged into World War II.
Complete with 34 pages, rag edition in nice condition. A few small binding holes along the spine.
