Very descriptive of St. Lucia...
Item # 660235
April 01, 1782
THE LONDON MAGAZINE, England, April, 1782 Inside has over a full page article: "An Account of the Island of St. Lucia" which is very descriptive. The accompanying map called for is lacking. The other plate called for is lacking as well.
A report notes that: "...his Excellency Sir Guy Carleton set out from his apartments in Duke Street, Grosvenor Square, for Portsmouth, to embark immediately on his expedition to New York to take upon him the chief command of his Majesty's forces in America."
Also reports include the details of the capitulation of the island of Menorca [Minorca]. The Franco-Spanish reconquest of Menorca (historically called "Minorca" in English) from the British in February 1782, after the siege of Fort St. Philip, was an important step in the achievement of Spain's aims in its alliance with France against Britain during the Revolutionary War. The ultimate result was the devolution of the island to Spain in the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
Formatted very much like the Gentleman's Magazine but a much scarcer title. The title/contents page features a great engraving of the skyline of London.
Complete in 56 pages, 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
