THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, England, May, 1797  Certainly the most notable content is under: "American News" where there is quite detailed accounting of the election process. It begins with a Philadelphia dateline of Feb. 8 and reading: "In Congress. The Speaker informed the House teat the hour was come at which they had appointed to meet the Senate for the purpose of counting over the votes for, and declaring the election of, a President and Vice President of the United States..." followed by much detail. Further on: "...By the report which has been made to me, by the tellers appointed by the two Houses to examine the votes, there are 71 votes for John Adams; 68 votes for Thomas Jefferson...." and vote counts for eleven others as well (see). Then further on: "...in obedience to the Constitution...and to the commands of both Houses of Congress, expressed in their resolutions passed  in the present session, John Adams is elected President of the United States, Thomas  Jefferson Vice President, for four years to commence on the fourth day of March next..." with more (see)

Complete in 88 pages, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, nice condition.

This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
