DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., July 8, 1847  Page 3 has several items on the Mexican war with a column headed: "The News From Mexico" which includes in part: "...no longer doubtful that Gen. Scott's march upon the capital will be disputed with no inconsiderable determination--for Mexicans. It is supposed that he will be resisted, in force, at three several points between Puebla and Mexico. Santa Anna has succeeded in getting to the windward of his enemies..." and much more.
Also a report from a New  Orleans paper concerning prospects for peace, and a letter from Puebla, Mexico, includes: "...The report is that Congress will not accept Santa Anna's resignation..." and more.
Page 2 has over a full column headed: "A Visit to Lake Superior" "Lake Superior--Its Outlet--Keewenaw Point and Bay--Scenery--The Saut--Ship Canal..." and more. This is a very descriptive article of the lake.
