NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, April 28, 1832 Within this issue is an article headed: "Case Of Samuel Houston" which is concerning his trial for flogging William Stanberry. This report is quite lengthy, taking almost 6 pages, with a portion including: "...At the moment of stepping on the side walk Mr. Houston stood before me. I think he called me by my name, and instantly struck me with a bludgeon he had in his hand with great violence & he repeated the blow while I was down; he struck me repeatedly with great violence..." with much more.
There are two more reports on the case of Sam Houston, one near the back taking an additional 5 pages, and another on the front page taking about a full column.
