THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 12, 1942

  • Battle of Guadalcanal beginning
  • Solomon Islands - U.S. Marines
  • World War II - WWII

The front page has a nice four column headline: "AMERICANS HOLD GROUND IN SOLOMONS; 'OUTPUNCH' COUNTER -ATTACKING  FOE; NAZIS PLUNGE DEEPER INTO CAUCASUS" with subheads. (see) Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sport and advertisements of the day which much more on World war II. Complete in 40 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
