The raid on Petersburg, from the Confederacy...

Item # 646440 ·
RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, June 11, 1864

* From the capital of the Confederacy
* Siege of Petersburg, Virginia begins

Not just a newspaper from the Confederacy, but from the capital of the Confederate States. And this issue is from late in the Civil War. Among the front page items are: "The War News" "From Bottom's Bridge" "The Raid On Petersburg" with subheads: "The Enemy's Advance--Demonstration by the Enemy's Gunboats--Charge by the Enemy--Enemy Attempt to Enter the City but are Driven Back..." and more. Also: "From North Georgia" "From the Valley" "From Trans-Mississippi" and other smaller items.
The back page has Civil War content as well including a lengthy editorial, plus also reports from: "The Confederate Congress" "Very Latest From the North" "Commutation of Salaries" "and other items.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, rather common from the South late in the war as most of the paper mills were in the North. In great condition.
