THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, England, August, 1799  Included is a very interesting letter taking nearly half a page which describes the "phenomenon" of what we consider a relative common cyclone, or tornado. But apparently at the time, in England, such events were almost unknown. Interesting reading as the eye-witness describes the tornado (see). Adjacent to it is a full page plate, one-third of which is taken up with a print of the tornado, perhaps one of the earliest engravings of such to be found in any periodical.
Included is the other plate called for as well.
Complete in 96 pages, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 1/4 by 8 1/2 inches, nice condition.

This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
