April 07, 1882
ST. LOUIS GLOBE-DEMOCRAT, Missouri, April 7, 1882 Keep in mind that St. Louis is some 260 miles from Kearney, Mo., where the burial of Jesse James was, and it explains why this newspaper devoted over 3 columns of text on his funeral & other particulars. The front page has two columns headed: "DUST TO DUST" "The Last Act performed in the Jesse James Tragedy" "The Noted Outlaw's Corpse Left to Sleep in the Silence o the Grave" "A Large Attendance of Strangers--Mrs. Samuels' Vindictiveness--She & the Wife United in Denouncing the Law Officers--An Interesting Interview with Her--A Brother of the Avengers Talks...". A very interesting & lengthy article which carries over to page 3 as well.
Twelve pages, a bit of rubbing in the headlines affects some letters (see), otherwise quite nice.
