THE WAR, New York, Nov. 21, 1812

  • War of 1812 events in the South
  • Commodore John Rodgers letter

The entire front page is taken up with a report datelined "Mobile Settlement, Sept. 30, 1812" and headed: "Our Southern Frontier" which carries over to take one-third of pg. 2. Other War of 1812 reports inside include: "General Orders" "From Lake Ontario" "Northern army" "From Canada" "Improvements In Warfare" "In Congress". Also war content on the back page including a letter signed by Commodore John Rodgers to the Secretary of the Navy datelined from the frigate President.
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in.,never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
