SALEM GAZETTE, Salem, Massachusetts, July 19, 1814  This issue contains three separate articles pertaining to his taking possession of an island in which he named it "Madison's Island" after President Madison. The first article is "Capt. Porter's South Sea Conquest" which has the "Declaration" of the possession of the island, the different tribes that existed, the establishing of Fort Madison and the list of witnesses. The second report is "Captain Porter's late Cruise" which is over a page in length. The third is "Conquest of Nooaheevah".
The front page also has a an article "Character of the Late Chief Justice" which is in regards to the recent death of Samuel Sewall. The content was from Judge Parker when he addressed the Bar with an overview of the Mr. Sewall's life.
