JOURNAL AMERICAN, New York, April 12, 1955 This terrific headline is perhaps the very best I have seen on this event, the successful efforts of Jonas Salk in finding a vaccine for polio. The large & bold banner headline announces: "SALK'S VACCINE WORKS ! " with various subheads, and the ftpg. also features a large photo captioned: "It Works!...Holding laboratory jar of polio vaccine is its developer, Dr. Jonas E. Salk. Today came the long-awaited, historical report, starting pungently: 'The vaccine works.' " (see).
Almost all issues I have seen reporting this notable event had very unassuming headlines, rarely a banner headline, with a report almost lost on the front page. This front page is well beyond the typical, and a headline just as a collector would want.
This is the complete first (of 2) section with pages 1-16. The index shows content thru 32 pages. There is wear at the spine margin including a non-archival repair at the top, some perforation near the middle of the spine, and some minor loss near the bottom. The ftrpg. is evenly toned with minimal margin wear.
