THE CHARLESTON DAILY NEWS, South Carolina, Oct. 13, 1870  All columns on all 4 pages are black-bordered for the death of Robert E. Lee, with the top of a front page column headed: "THE DEATH OF R. E. LEE" "Tidings of the Last Moments of The Great Captain" with the text including several dispatches concerning the announcement, the last one noting: "General Lee died this morning at half-post 9 o'clock. He began to grow worse on Monday & continued to sink until he breathed his last this morning..." (see).
Page 2 has a nice editorial on Lee's death headed: "The Death of Lee" (see). Nice to have this notable report in a Southern newspapers.
