CONNECTICUT MIRROR, Hartford, July 13, 1812 Page 3 has: "Rencounter Between the President and Belvidera Frigates" with much detail on the naval battle, noting near the end: "...At one time the President was within pistol shot of the Belvidera & the latter discharged her carronades with grape into her...The firing lasted two hours and a half." (see).
