1st East to West Atlantic flight....

Item # 564219 ·
THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, NY, September 3, 1930

* 1st East to West Atlantic Ocean flight (more difficult)
* Dieudonne Costes & Marice Bellonte
* Paris to New York in airplane (1st time)

This 56 page newspaper has a very nice three line banner headline on the front page: "COSTE DOES IT IN 37 HOURS, 18 1/2 MINUTES!; FIRST TO MAKE PARIS-NEW YORK FLIGHT; HOOVER, LINDBERGH AND BYRD HAIL FEAT" with many subheads and related photo. Much more on page 2, 3 and 4. Too much to photograph. Great to have in this famous NYC title.

Other news of the day. Light browning with minor spine wear, otherwise in good condition.

wikipedia notes: Dieudonné Costes (14 November 1892 - 18 May 1973) was a French aviator, known of long distance and record breaking flights, a fighter ace of World War I.

In 1-2 September 1930, Costes with Maurice Bellonte, flew Breguet 19 Super Bidon "?" from Paris to New York, as the first aircraft in more difficult westbound direction, between North American and European mainlands. They covered 6200 km in 37 hours 18 minutes (some sources claim 5850 km).
