A page 2 report states that: "...new...discoveries of lead ore have been made upon the east bank of the Mississippi, between the Platte and Grand Rivers, in Iowa County, M.T." Says the ore is of the "best quality" and that 400,000 pounds of lead ore have been removed from a horizontal cave, 150 feet above the level of the river. Also mentions that: "A town, called Van Buren...has been laid out, and that part of the country is rapidly increasing in population."
